Once upon a time, a long time ago, when elves and giants, walked through Istria, naughty, little people, says the story, left one giant in each city to serve them, after they poisoned the others. Veli Jože found himself in Motovun, and the little people despised and belittled him, forcing him to the most difficult jobs. And when these little people would do him any harm, the mighty Veli Jože shook the Motovun bell tower indignantly. Though large and strong, of a heroic and noble heart, he could do nothing but shake that bell tower. Until the moment they sent him to Venice, when on the way there he met the galleon Ilija on a ship. He learned from him what freedom was, so after the shipwreck, in which Ilija disappeared, Veli Jože returned to Istria and called on other giants for rebellion and liberation from slavery. And he succeeded, the rebellion began, but soon the dwarves managed to seduce the giants, sweeping them with gold and wine. In the end, they all returned as servants to their cities, and only Veli Jože remained somewhere in the mountain forests, waiting for his moment for the much dreamed and desired freedom.
