The seventh whiskey from the Bond House No. 1, Grand Vintage 1997 is a selection of the best part of the whiskey from that year, specially selected for a unique way of aging. This is the first whiskey aged in rare wine casks, Château Montrose from Saint-Estèphe, French region Bordeaux. The core consists of whiskey aged for 10 years in the best bourbon casks, followed by 13 years in casks of premium red Bordeaux wine. Before bottling, it was blended with parts of whiskey completely aged in ex-bourbon casks that brought to blend some citrus notes, part from ex-oloroso sherry casks for sweetness and spices, and an additional part from secret casks which also played an important role.
Grand Vintage 1997 is extremely vivid, full of fruitiness, spices and sweetness in both aroma and taste. It is amazing complexity of the pronounced fruit aromas, especially red fruits, but also tropical ones, as well as pears and mandarins, floral ones like roses, jasmine and carnations, and spices like sweet chili, cloves, and ginger. Almond marzipan, vanilla, and toffee apples can also be felt on the palate. The finish is long, rich, and rounded.
Whiskey comes in an impressive packaging, and each bottle is numbered.
