The Crljenak variety deserves a larger number of producers and bottles on the market as a wider audience. I am always glad to see that there is some sort of crljenak, like this Zlatan Crljenak, because, no matter how many new ones are constantly coming out, we are still not where we should be. This variety is one of the parents of Plavac mali, a variety that moved to California and thrives there under the name zinfandel and has an enviable world fame, and comes from our region. This is a variety that Mr. Grgić recognized with the naked eye in vineyards in America and which, like him, arrived there from Dalmatia. In tannins it is lighter than blue, and has beautiful fruity-floral aromas.
