WORLD MALBEC DAY

World Malbec Day is celebrated on April 17 to commemorate the day when President Domingo Faustino Sarmiento of Argentina officially began a mission to transform the Argentine wine industry. On that day, back in 1853, he tasked Michel Aimé Pouget, a French soil expert, to bring in new grape varieties to Argentina. Among the other varieties he brought also Malbec, and started to experiment with adapting French varieties to various Argentina's terroirs. Malbec adapted even better than in its original country, France, and after some time became Argentina's leading variety.

World Malbec Day was first held on April 17, 2011 and since then every year is celebrated around the world on that day with a variety of gastronomic events.
