Miljenko "Mike" Grgich first gained international recognition at the celebrated "Paris Tasting" in 1976. The French judges were shocked: they chose the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, made by Mike Grgich, as the finest white wine in the world. The results stunned the international wine organization and Mike gained a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world. Their philosophy is very simple: great wines always start with exceptional fruit. They are committed to natural viticulture and sustainability, dealing with five-farm vineyards without fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. All are certified organic. They have 366 acres planted in five vineyards that make up a string of pearls that run through the heart of the Napa Valley. Each has its own unique climate, so they have carefully selected the varieties best suited for each terroir vineyard.
