Fantinel
In the heart of northeastern Italy, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, lies one of the most highly regarded family-owned wineries, Fantinel. Its story begins in 1969, when Paron Mario Fantinel, a restaurateur with a deep passion for gastronomy and wine, decided to devote his life to crafting wines by his own hands. He purchased his first vineyards in Collio, a homeland internationally renowned for its exceptional wines, thus embarking on a journey that would grow into a globally recognized wine brand. Today, grapes are cultivated across more than 300 hectares of vineyards located in Friuli’s most esteemed DOC areas, with wines exported to over ninety countries worldwide. The winery is headquartered in Tauriano, near Spilimbergo, while its vineyards extend over diverse soils ranging from “ponca” sediments (calcareous marl) to marl and sandy soils. This geological diversity, combined with the region’s favorable microclimate, creates ideal conditions for viticulture. The influence of the Adriatic Sea and cooling alpine winds imparts a distinctive freshness and mineral character to the grapes. Alongside traditional varieties, the winery also cultivates indigenous grapes, continuously working to preserve and reinterpret them through modern winemaking techniques.
