Damjanić

The story begins in the late 18th century when the Jurković family started growing vine plantings in the area of Fuškulin near Poreč. Years of hard work have created one of the leading wineries in the region, awarded at world wine exhibitions such as the Grand Prix in Paris in the 1920s, where their red wine won the gold medal in 1928.

After a 50-year hiatus, the descendants of the Damjanić family started replanting the vineyards at the beginning of the new millennium. Owing to their hard work of some 10 years, the Damjanić family now has 7 ha (17 acres) of vineyards which stretch at the distance of 3 km from the sea. The vicinity of the sea and a low altitude contribute to the perfect microclimate of these sites which provide wines of premium characteristics.

The varieties currently planted are Istrian malvazija, chardonnay, yellow muscat, gamay, merlot and teran. Winemaking is approached with the most advanced enological technology, while the wines obtained from red varieties are traditionally and regularly aged in wooden barrels for a period of 12-14 months.
