An Oa was named after the peninsula in the far south of the island of Islay, i.e. its elevated part called The Mull of Oa, which protects the distillery from the cold winds of the Atlantic. An Oa is created in a collection boiler, where contents from the selected barrels from the distillery cellar are mixed. It includes new burnt oak, the whisky from the Pedro Ximenez Sherry barrel and the "first whisky". Along with the distinctive aromas of milk chocolate, caramel, nutmeg, cinnamon and the legendary Ardberg smokiness, An Oa is further rounded and softened by the sweet taste obtained from the Pedro Ximenez barrel.
