The high quality wines from the 2018 harvest were carefully selected and blended to create the Sandeman Porto Late Bottled Vintage 2018. Aged for around four years, this wine was bottled without filtration, maintaining the style of a single-harvest wine.
Produced from 43% Touriga Franca, 30% Touriga Nacional, 17% Tinta Roriz, 6% Tinta Barroca and 4% Tinto CĂŁo, from selected plots at Quinta do Seixo and Quinta do Vau. It was vinified at the Quinta do Seixo winery, using traditional Port Wine technology. The process involved treading in granite 'lagares' at controlled temperatures, in order to extract the compounds that give colour, aroma and flavour to this wine. After the harvest, the wine remained in the Douro region. The following spring it was transported to Vila Nova de Gaia, where it underwent the traditional ageing process in oak vats. During this period, it was frequently subject to racking, analysis and tasting to monitor its evolution. The final blend was made further to careful selection of wines with the characteristics and style of L.B.V. Sandeman.
A deep almost opaque ruby colour, this wine has a very complex aroma with red fruits and spicy notes such as ginger and cloves. On the palate, it has great volume, a lively acidity, firm tannins, and further notes of shrubs and black fruit that invite a long, complex finish.
A natural deposit may form in the bottle. After its 2nd year in the bottle, it is recommended that the wine be decanted prior to consumption. The quality of the wine will improve with bottle ageing. In terms of longevity, this wine is expected to evolve positively. If stored properly, can be consumed up to 10-15 years after bottling.
