Korlat

The sunshine and the barren soil exposed to strong winds in the Benkovac-Stankovci wine region give distinctive characteristics to the wines of Benkovac. The production area consists of a total of 243 ha (600 acres) of own vineyards, out of which 103 ha (255 acres) are the new Korlat plantations, 80 ha (189 acres) are the Miranje site, and 60 ha (148 acres) of vineyards are located on the Pristeg site, which is being prepared for planting.

The Benkovac winery is famous for the production of rakija (spirits) from grapes and the finest wine distillates.

In line with the established strategy, the company “Badel 1862” invested major funds in the reconstruction of the old and planting of the new vineyards. A special emphasis is put on the new vineyard on Korlat near Benkovac, with the production size of 103 ha (255 acres) of the world-renowned varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot. This is a pioneering venture in Croatia - using specific agrotechnical methods and special machines, karst was ground into rock, creating a blend of soil and rock, i.e. creating ideal conditions for the cultivation of grapes. Besides the fact that the vineyard is planted on a rocky terrain, its particularity lies in an unusually high altitude of 300 meters.
