Chateau d'Yquem
If we were to try to translate the name Chateau d'Yquem meaningfully, the best candidate would be the "Yquem estate", which was first mentioned in the late 15th century. The vines on this estate are mentioned in 1711.
Sauternes is part of the wider Bordeaux region and is located in its southeast. According to the appeal, the name was given to a wine that, in order to bear it, must be sweet, must be made of semillions, sauvignon and may contain muscadelle, and the best contain a portion of grapes with noble mold that adds aroma and concentrates wine by drying the berry grapes.
The reputation that Chateau d’Yquem has is that of perfectionism. Seemingly small increments single out the largest from the group, but these small increments require, certainly disproportionately, the most investment. It is not surprising, therefore, that entire harvests were thrown away, destroyed, or used for the generic white wines of the appeal in those years when those at the helm were not satisfied with the results.
Only with such ultimate devotion can you provide your works with qualities such as; one of the most expensive bottles of wine ever sold, one of the longest-lasting wines in the wine world that easily transcends a century of age, one of the most prestigious Sauternes in the world with hundreds more than is decent to remember.
