Chateau d'Yquem from 2020 is a blend of 75% Semillion and 25% Sauvignon. The year was characterized by a dry and cold winter, and the summer by intense heat and drought. Light rainfall during August allowed the grapes to ripen nicely. However dry weather delayed the implementation of the noble rot, resulting in a slightly lighter Sautern. The maturation lasted for 22 months, and in 2020, the lowest amount of 35 000 bottles was produced to date. Light golden in color, it opens primarily with citrus and tropical notes of pineapple, which later turn into notes of sweet ginger, orange blossom and almond tart, followed by notes of peach, ripe pineapple, jasmine and saffron. On the palate, it is characteristically rich, full-bodied and beautifully harmonious. It is enriched by notes of caramelized pear, apricot marmalade, the aroma of cinnamon and hints of baked bread. It is slightly salty, yet fruity and pleasant. In addition to being ready to enjoy it now, those with a little more patience will enjoy it just as much in twenty to thirty years.Â
