Borgo Conventi
The name Borgo Conventi, which translates to "hamlet convent", was inspired by a legend and a plot of land in the ancient hamlet of Farra d'Isonzo. In the 17th Century, a noble landowner, Count Strassoldo, known as "il Rizzardo" donated land to the friar, on which the Dominicans then built the first monastery in the Farre d'Isonzo. Established in 1975, Borgo Conventi took its name from this legendary land in Farra d'Isonzo and was founded on the promise to produce elegant wines which respect the land and the province's history.
Today, Borgo Conventi is owned by the Folonari family, which continues this tradition, and since 2019, the winery has become part of the Villa Sandi group.
Borgo Conventi currently owns 20 hectares of vineyards in the Collio DOC area and 10 hectares of vineyards in the Isonzo DOC area. The Collio DOC area stretches over the hills around Gorizia, and is characterized by terraced vineyards and soil rich in marl and limestone. Here are grown Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla gialla and Merlot, which give complex and aromatic wines. The Isonzo DOC area is located in the lowlands along the river Isonzo (Sloven. Soča), which enriches the soil with sediments and minerals. Here are grown Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Refosco dal penducolo rosso, Merlot and Cabernet franc, which give excellent young and fresh wines.
The cellar of the Borgo Conventi winery was renovated in 1990. Today, the winery produces about 300,000 bottles of wine a year.
