Balcon de Pilatos is one of Bodega Valdemar’s vineyards and the best position for growing Maturana, a variety that was almost lost due to phylloxera. However, in the early 2000s, the Valdemar family managed to revitalize Maturana from only 35 vines found in a century-old vineyard. After a long search for the ideal place for planting, Balcon de Pilatos was chosen as the optimal place due to its altitude of about 500 m, characteristic microclimate and soil composition.
The wine was aged for 11 months in new American oak barrels and aged for an additional 3 years to become fully rounded. It has a pronounced dark cherry color with lively reflections. On the nose, it is strong and complex, with notes of ripe black fruit and spices such as cocoa and vanilla, with hints of almond and cedar. On the palate it is juicy, chocolatey, with fine and smooth tannins. It has a long and complex finish, with subtle hints of blackberries such as blackcurrants and blueberries.

It was produced in a limited series of only 8811 bottles, so it would be a shame not to try it.
