La Roncaia Fusco Merlot from Fantinel is an intense and sophisticated expression of this variety. The grapes come from carefully selected vineyards located on the hills of Friuli Colli Orientali, where vineyard positions, limestone-marl soils, and a microclimate influenced by both Alpine and Mediterranean factors allow the grapes to develop their full aromatic potential. Harvesting is done by hand, and part of the crop undergoes the traditional passerillage method, drying the grapes on the vine for several weeks, to further concentrate the aromas, structure, and complexity. After harvest, the grapes ferment and macerate on the skins, and the wine then slowly ages for around 18 months in barrique oak barrels, which imparts additional complexity, softness, and depth. In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-red color with garnet highlights, emphasizing its ripe and elegant character. The nose reveals a complex and refined aromatic profile, where intense notes of red berries, such as ripe cherry and plum, intertwine with subtle herbal and spice nuances, making the bouquet both full and expressive, yet clean and sophisticated. On the palate, the wine is well-structured, warm, and balanced, with soft, silky tannins and nicely integrated freshness. The flavor reflects the ripeness of the fruit and a velvety texture, while the barrique aging contributes subtle oak notes and additional aromatic complexity. The finish is long, enriched by the mineral traces of the soil and an elegant aromatic persistence.
