Planeta
Planeta is a brand of various wineries located in some very interesting regions of the island. The first winery was established in the 1980s in Menfi, which is the origin of one of the most serious wines of this winery, the very harmonious and complex Chardonnay Menfi D.O.C. from the site of Ulmo.
Later, the vineyards were planted on the red soil of Vittoria and in Noto, where the limestone and white soil, from what we know so far, gave birth to the Nero d’Avola, the famous Sicilian variety and the pride of Sicily. Noto is the origin of Santa Cecilia, which is considered their best wine of this variety.
The road then takes us to Etna. The mysterious Etna, as volcanoes usually are, gives the best soil for Carricante, an ancient Sicilian grapevine which is extremely fond of these mineral soils full of rare nutrients. The Carricante grape can be found in the Etna Bianco wine, along with another interesting variety you most likely haven't tried so far, which is in the same range as Etna Rosso. That variety is Nerello Mascalese. It has striking freshness, red fruit aroma, but slightly more prominent tannins.
