Batič

With profound respect for nature, the Batič family approaches winemaking more as the art of careful gathering than as cellar intervention. They pay special attention to local grape varieties and traditional winemaking practices, crafting wines that honestly and authentically reflect the terroir and character of each vintage. The Batič winery was founded in 1592, and today Ivan Batič and his son Miha continue a tradition spanning more than four centuries. Their experience and heritage transcend passing trends in modern winemaking. The Batič family owns 19 hectares of vineyards spread across three villages – Šempas, Vogrsko, and Vitovlje – ranging from 60 to 1,495 meters above sea level. The Batič estate’s signature approach lies in knowing when and how to do nothing. Key practices include highly selective hand harvesting, extended maceration – particularly of native white grape varieties – fermentation in open Slovenian wooden vats without temperature control, and the exclusive use of indigenous yeasts. These methods allow the wines to genuinely reflect the terroir and the nature of each vintage.
