Degrassi Merlot is a member of a small Istrian Merlot club. When the famous Master of Wine, Oz Clarke, visited Istria, he immediately predicted a bright future for the Merlot planted there. We could say we did not need his words, but it is nice to hear such a positive, professional opinion. As much as Merlot is ubiquitous on this planet, Istrian Merlot could still protect the designation of origin. It has a specific, unique expression in Istria, it is "Istrian Merlot" not any other. If you look at complexity and structure of the wine, you would say it comes from an altitude of 800 meters above sea level, but if you look at the tannins, they are fine-grained, ripe and soft. One of the few wines I would describe as a "Goldilocks" wine.
