Morillon is the Austrian name for chardonnay. Those are two identical varieties. Gross Morillon is a chardonnay that has been given more attention and care than the usual, everyday chardonnays. First of all, in Ratsche the soil is very rich in calcium, which is very important for chardonnay. The “startin” designation means that it was aged in traditional Austrian 600-liter barrels for 12 months. The quality of the soil and the additional 6 months on yeasts have enriched this wine with mineral notes and complexity. It has the aroma of ripe stone fruit and yellow wildflowers, with an elegant minerality.
